I am definitely intrigued by the idea of repainting the faces for my custom Barbies, and I have hella respect for those who do.

But I wanted to explain here that for right now I choose not to repaint the faces on the dolls I've featured here because I feel they're more like the Barbies of my childhood that way. My, times have changed, and it's so cool to get a character Barbie whose face looks like the character. But back in my day, Barbie was "playing" the character. So the dolls looked like Barbie but were dressed and hairstyled (and accessorized) to look like a certain character.

So for now, that's what I've decided to go for with my OOAKs. It's also why you'll see a character like Nikita here, who is fairly serious, smiling. The Barbies of my youth always smiled, even if only a little.

I've been a Barbie junkie since birth. They don't always make my favorite characters; so I have to make them myself. I mostly kit bash, as my sewing skills are underdeveloped. For me, the doll must be a Barbie or one of her friends.

When I was cleaning my brother's room as a favor, I found all of these GI Joe-type 1/6 scale weapons. My brother let me keep his extras, and I thought I'd make a Soldier of Fortune Barbie. Instead, I decided to make one of my favorite heroines: La Femme Nikita as portrayed by Peta Wilson in the USA Network series from 1997.

To top it all off, Peta Wilson stated in an interview with Details magazine back in '97: "I still want them to make a Nikita Barbie."

Here's Nikita dressed to go out on a mission: black long-sleeved top, bulletproof vest, black pants, black boots, and a black toboggan hat -- all the better to hide in a Ukrainian forest at night to do some recon. And of course, she's complete with a gun for protection.

(I still have to make her packaging and box her.)
